It's beautifully written and speaks to our diversity as women and to the common threads that connect us all in deep ways. The magazine is just a part of what they do. Meet Sandi Tomlin-Sutker
Publisher, Editor

wnc sandi"I always seem to need two different projects at once. While in graduate school in Political Science in the 80's, I helped my husband grow a wholesale clothing business. Then I started a retail clothing store in 1991 (sold it in 1997) and began another business, a retail home furnishing store in 1995 and later an e-commerce site. I sold that business in 2004 so I could devote full time to WNC WOMAN. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to share my writing and bring the voices of many women to you."

A note from Corrie: Each magazine closes with Sandi's reflections in The Last Word. Here is a sample from December 2008.

Meet Julie Savage Parker
Publisher, Editor

wnc julieI took a leap of faith in 1997 and moved from Washington DC to Asheville with my dog Cricket* to launch my Web design business - Handwoven Webs. [See more about me on my Handwoven Webs site] My love of the interplay of words and pictures and my passion for "weaving webs" of people and ideas led me to take another leap of faith in 2002 and launch WNC WOMAN with my friend Sandi Tomlin-Sutker. *Three precious dogs: Anna, Freya, and Charley have now come into my life. Charley is the one in the picture above...

A note from Corrie: Each magazine opens with Julie's reflections in The First Word. Here is a sample from December 2008. I love experiencing this personal side and the wisdom of both these women.

"The mission of Western North Carolina Woman is to celebrate the inherent strength, wisdom, and grace of Aug coverwomen. Our print publication and the resources available on our website provide a hub through which women can be interconnected, interdependent, and interactive. Articles and columns will focus on creative problem solving and the sharing of ideas, information, inspiration, and joy. Women can be isolated by barriers of time and space (commitments and geography). WNC WomanDec cover provides a means to transcend those barriers.
We envision that the collective wisdom of this gathering of women will enliven individual spirit and creative energy to support personal growth and expansion, and serve as a catalyst for positive change for the whole community."

Celebrating the words, art, and music or women. Women's Art Space is another part of our mission to provide a hub through which women can be interconnected, interdependent, and interactive.

A message from Sandi Tomlin-Sutker: "Since 2002, when Julie Parker and I decided to embark on this journey, the magazine has grown and led us to so many encounters with incredible women, so many moments of creative challenge, of joyous discovery.  Today (Fall 2008) we are in a new growth phase; we have three new women helping us to sell ads and market the magazine (Sharon Williamson, Martha David, Linda Heitel); we have begun womensartspace.com to highlight and market the art and writing of women; and we have developed new systems to organize ourselves and make WNC WOMAN an even more dynamic and high-quality publication.  Thanks to all you writers and readers who have made this process so rewarding!"

“We cannot escape fear.  We can only transform it into a companion that accompanies us on all our exciting adventures.  Take a risk a day—one small or bold stroke that will make you feel great once you have done it.”  ~Susan Jeffers

"I keep Corrie’s book by my bedside and open it randomly whenever I’m feeling the need for inspiration or encouragement.  Today I opened to these three suggestions to bring one’s vision into reality:  Clear the Clutter; Delegate; Choose wisely.  Say NO often.  These were perfect for this moment and I find this to always be so. Thank you." - Sandi Tomlin-Sutker
