Karly Randolph Pitman - First Ourselves
There are a few voices in the emerging field of women's self-care that truly stand out. Karly's is one of them. Her message is clear, compelling and heart-felt. She walks her talk, shares her story, and provides hope and inspiration through all she does. I am so very grateful to be learning from and collaborating with Karly.

Karly Randolph Pitman wants to revolutionize the lives of women through self-care. Her call to arms -- that a woman put herself, first, for the highest good of all -- is a result of her own struggles with mommy Martyrdom, depression, low self esteem, and sugar addiction. This message of empowered self-acceptance is spread through her website, First Ourselves, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country and around the globe, her media interviews, and her books.
Self-care is not indulgence, narcissism, or self-absorption. True self-care is nurturing, balanced, realistic, and disciplined. This kind of care benefits everyone, radiating outward from every woman to her entire circle. When this mindset becomes a daily practice, it changes women's lives, leading them to the ultimate freedom: the freedom to be the mother, wife, friend, daughter -- woman -- they wish to be.
A mother of four, Karly is the author of Heal Your Body Image: An Inspiring, Step-by-Step Guide to Loving Your Body, and Overcoming Sugar Addiction: How to Kick Your Sugar Habit. She also has a forthcoming daybook for moms, Mother Care: A Woman's Guide to Reclaiming her Happiness.
Karly’s favorite things include dancing in the kitchen with her
family, visiting the beach, reading, running, and indulging in all things feminine (painting her nails, getting dressed up, and finding pretty lingerie.) She prefers skirts and heels to jeans any day, and has a slight Project Runway addiction.
The quintessential extrovert, she loves to talk and connect with other women. She's appeared in dozens of radio interviews, including KGO, the largest talk radio station in the country. Her work has also been featured on Yahoo Shine!, on top 100 blogs, and has been endorsed by Jessica Weiner, spokeswoman for the Dove self esteem fund.
Highlights
My work is for any woman who questions her own self-worth; who struggles to love and accept herself; who feels lost; who wants to be her best self. Women can be so hard on themselves; while they take excellent care of those around them, they often neglect their own needs, or have such high standards for themselves that they never measure up.
I want to change this: to give every woman breathing room to just be… to be at peace with her greatest treasure: her very self.

I love Corrie’s gentle guide, reminders to care for and love myself in the midst of my day to day life. Her writing is inspiring, wise, encouraging, and thought provoking. I particularly like her invocation to erase the shoulds and have tos that plague my mind, and to add more joy, dimension, and connection in its place. My copy of a Woman’s Field Guide is dogeared and underlined from good use.
